Which Environments and industries use explosion-proof and rugged enclosures?
Rugged and explosion-proof enclosures are deployed in industrial facilities, outdoor and field-service operations, and hazardous locations such as oil and gas sites where flammable gases or combustible dust may be present. Atemitech engineers each enclosure around the customer's device and actual operating conditions, with a portfolio spanning rugged protective cases and explosion-proof equipment enclosures.
What is an explosion-proof tablet case, and how does it differ from a rugged case ?
An explosion-proof tablet case enables a commercial tablet to be operated safely in hazardous areas containing flammable gases or combustible dust. While a rugged case is designed primarily for impact, dust and water protection, an explosion-proof case additionally requires validated flame path and sealing designs and must meet the applicable explosion-protection certification requirements. Atemitech delivers both solutions according to project requirements.
Which certifications are required for explosion-proof enclosures, and how do ATEX and IECEx differ ?
Certification requirements depend on the target market. ATEX is mandatory for placing equipment on the European Union market, while IECEx is an international certification scheme recognized in many countries. Both are based on the IEC 60079 series of standards. Atemitech designs and validates enclosures in line with IEC 60079, IECEx and ATEX requirements, based on product specifications and target markets.
What protection capabilities can a rugged enclosure provide?
Protection against dust and water ingress, impact, vibration and chemical corrosion can be integrated to meet specific application requirements. For high-risk environments such as oil and gas, Atemitech can further incorporate an explosion-proof structural design and validate it against the relevant certification requirements.
Can a customer enclosure be developed for an existing device without compromisig its functionality ?
Yes. Atemitech tailors each design to the device's dimensions, structure, user interface, I/O ports, antenna layout and operating environment, achieving the optimal balance between protection, wireless performance and usability while preserving the device's original functionality.
Will a metal explosion-proof enclosure affect Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity, and how is this addressed ?
Metal enclosures can attenuate RF signals. Atemitech mitigates this through material evaluation, antenna placement optimization, and RF testing and tuning, ensuring reliable wireless connectivity once the protective enclosure is installed.
Can a single partner manage design, explosion-proof certification and mass production ?
Yes. Atemitech offers a turnkey service from development through volume production, covering mechanical design, material selection, prototyping, engineering validation (flame path and sealing verification, environmental testing and RF testing), certification support and mass production, backed by manufacturing sites in Taiwan, China and Vietnam.
